Ronak Bhatt
Principal Advisor
Ronak advises companies on a range of strategic issues for value creation with a focus on growth: new business development, product commercialization, innovation, sales & marketing, and partnerships/M&A. He works with companies from $50M to $10B in a variety of industries including manufacturing, energy, private equity, chemicals, and packaging.

Prior to RIN Advisors, Ronak spent 6 years at McKinsey & Company, where he led consulting and client teams at Fortune 500 companies deal with their most pressing strategic challenges. Ronak also worked as a scientist at Beam Power Technology, a startup commercializing particle accelerator technologies he developed as a graduate student for applications in telecommunications and radar.

In his spare time, Ronak teaches courses in business and energy at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he is a part-time Associate Professor in the Energy Production and Infrastructure Center (EPIC). Ronak is also a member of the Board of Directors of E4 Carolinas, a regional energy cluster organization, and received an Energy Leadership Award from the Charlotte Business Journal. Ronak earned his doctorate in physics from MIT, and his B.S. in physics at Caltech.

Fred Humiston
Principal Advisor
Fred’s professional experience spans a wide range of industries and functions, with hands-on experience in product innovation, manufacturing, sales & marketing, strategy development, and entrepreneurship. He is particularly passionate about developing organizations to cultivate innovation and developing people to find greater fulfillment in their careers. Currently, he is president of Bluetek Membrane Corporation, a start-up membrane technology company he co-founded in 2014. Bluetek’s worldwide customers span multiple markets. Before that, he led an “intrapreneurial” new market development team at Polypore International, a leading global membrane manufacturer. Prior to that, he worked in sales and in strategy development at Polypore.

Before joining Polypore, Fred was a senior associate at McKinsey & Company, where he covered a diverse range of clients, including manufacturing, banking, non-profit, retail, and food service, and functional areas, including operations, marketing, and strategy. His experience prior to McKinsey included manufacturing supervision and supply chain management at John Deere, where he had extensive hands-on experience with world-class lean manufacturing practices, and five years as a nuclear submarine officer in the U.S. Navy.

With a passion for helping people, Fred has provided career counseling to numerous individuals of various backgrounds. He also regularly conducts problem-solving seminars for Duke University MBA students.

Fred received a B.S. in Foreign Service from Georgetown University and an M.B.A. from the University of Iowa. He is proficient in Spanish, having lived in Bolivia for two years. He resides in Fort Mill, South Carolina.

Mark Shahinian
Principal Advisor
Prior to working with RIN Advisors, Mark worked at McKinsey & Company for four years. While there, he led teams that focused on helping energy and industrial clients answer strategic and operational questions, especially with regards to changing energy markets and new technologies. Mark’s favorite work involves helping organizations adapt to changing environments.

Mark has worked in a variety of other roles including newspaper reporter, overseas service as a Peace Corps Volunteer, field organizer for a political campaign and epidemiology lab researcher. Mark earned degrees in law and natural resources from the University of Michigan and a BA in history from Dartmouth College.

Malcolm Hicken
Principal Advisor
Prior to working with RIN Advisors, Malcolm was a consultant with McKinsey & Company where he helped primarily energy clients improve their strategy by understanding their opportunities in light of industry and economic trends. He analyzed both client and competitor data and assisted in building forecast models in the oil and gas, wind and solar sectors. He also worked in operations, organization, business development and marketing with non-energy clients in the US and Latin America.

Combined with rigorous analytical ability, he brings a broad yet keen knowledge of world affairs, politics, technology, investing, and societal change that informs the big picture within which each organization must operate.Malcolm is highly knowledgeable about Latin America and is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese, having worked and lived in Mexico for two years, Brazil for six months, and several other countries in the region for shorter periods.

Malcolm earned a PhD in physics from Harvard, where his research focused on supernovae, and a BS and MS in physics from BYU. He lives in Lethbridge, Canada and enjoys hiking in the Rockies nearby.

Kevin Terrell
Principal Advisor
Kevin has a wide range of commercial leadership and consulting experience in organizations including McKinsey & Company and General Electric and he has owned P & L’s in Fortune 500 and startup firms. Functionally, Kevin has led all facets of go-to-market teams including overseeing Voice of Customer, marketing, product development, sales, business development, pricing and strategy.

He was also a 6 Sigma Black Belt at General Electric, and has led cross-functional teams to deliver IT, operational and engineering solutions. He has expertise in a wide range of industries, including energy, healthcare, B2B and financial services, heavy manufacturing, construction, government and non-profits.

Kevin holds an MBA from the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management, and he completed his international business studies at the Stockholm School of Economics, Sweden. He earned his BA in German and Political Science from the University of Nebraska. Kevin is the Founder of Katana Consulting and also the Co-Founder of Start Reading Now, a research-based non-profit addressing summer setback and the achievement gap in his hometown of Minneapolis.
